The death of American field lacrosse was an unplanned evolution driven by technology advances, while any resurrection solutions will require planning and consensus, which may be impossible. So, what do we do now?

LAXnews readers continue to be split between agreeing with Leif Elsmo's latest article ‘The Death of Field Lacrosse' and arguing against making changes that encourage, among other things, bringing back the two way midfielders to the college game.

More readers sent e-mail responses to Leif Elsmo's article 'The Death of Field Lacrosse' than on anything else we published in the last 5 years.

One e-mail was from a well known Division 1 coach who asked not to have his name published. His e-mail (paraphrased) called The Death of Field Lacrosse 'ridiculous' and one of the worst he has ever read. He also said the article seems to be against growing the game.

This was not premeditated murder. This was not the act of one evil, deranged person. There was no grand conspiracy and this will not generate a high profile court case. Yet, this might be the single most tragic thing to ever happen to the sport of lacrosse.

BALTIMORE, Md. — Duke sophomore long-stick midfielder C.J. Costabile had had enough.

The lowest-scoring title game in NCAA Lacrosse Division 1 Championship history was filled with long and frustrating possessions for both sides. But in overtime, Costabile single-handedly won the first faceoff of overtime, sprinted away from two Irish jerseys straight into the box, and fired high to beat Notre Dame goalkeeper Scott Rodgers. He covered the 35 or so yards in five seconds flat and won the 2010 title for Duke (16-4) in the process.

Considering the upset of Maryland on Saturday and also how well Stony Brook played Virginia on Sunday, this column would normally start off about the games.

This week it starts off about the broadcast. Specifically, the extremely poor quality of the broadcast of the Maryland-Notre Dame game on Saturday.

There will be no ‘Threepeat’ by Syracuse Lacrosse in 2010. Army handed the Orange their first opening round loss in NCAA play in well over two decades yesterday.

Syracuse had won the last two Division One Lacrosse Championships and they were looking for their third. However, they failed to get by a hot Army team that trailed much of the way before rallying late in the game to force overtime.
